Why we no longer serve coffee - read all about it here ♥︎

GRUUN will close its coffee bar starting from May 2023.

Following a complaint by Mr. Matagne, owner of the vacant apartment on the third floor, the district court has unfortunately ruled that GRUUN is no longer allowed to conduct horeca.

If you often spend time in the St. Jacques neighbourhood of central Brussels, it's a spot that has undoubtedly already caught your eye: the coffee bar and plant store GRUUN on the Oud Korenhuis/Place de la Vieille Halle aux Blés is a fine establishment for coffee connoisseurs, sunbathers and plant collectors. Lore Tiebout started her business in 2018 in the small narrow building on the ground floor of number 36, where the "Gauloises" doorknob is still part of the former newspaper shop.

GRUUN received the necessary urban planning permits & operating license from the city of Brussels, in each case with the knowledge of the property owner & landlord. However, a mendaciously drawn up contract by real estate agent Gesti-Conseils and an accumulation of past discussions between the owner & Mr. Matagne caused the latter to go to the justice of the peace.

The horeca part has therefore to be stopped. A new, great opportunity: starting in May, GRUUN will completely reinvent itself as a plant store. "We are looking forward to spending even more time with our customers & plants," says Lore Tiebout, at one of the 4 tables in the cozy coffee bar. "We will focus even more on local collaborations. The coffee section will also remain an important part of our DNA. We will continue to offer delicious coffee beans, and fun tools so our customers can just keep brewing the best coffee at home. We are confident that our coffee customers will also continue to return for plant advice." GRUUN's webshop also remains online, with home delivery by bicycle everywhere in Brussels.

Besides the plant store, GRUUN also has a plant styling service for offices, restaurants or just people who would like to see their environment or homes greener. GRUUN also wants to remain a meeting place, by organizing more workshops, among other things. These will not only be plant-related but also focus on other topics close to GRUUN's heart.

The last weekend of April 2023, GRUUN will host a big horeca-farewell weekend. On Sunday, 30/04, all students will run one last shift exceptionally until 10pm. "May 1st is a holiday, so we are going to enjoy it ourselves Sunday night. The prosecco is already cold!"

GRUUN will close for a few days in early May to make some adjustments and minor renovations, in order to fully fly in as a plant store starting Friday, May 5th.
